Editorial Standards
How we research, write, and update content — and our policy on independence, corrections, and commercial relationships.
Last updated May 2026
How content is researched and verified
We write from primary sources wherever possible. That means government databases for incentive amounts, manufacturer specifications for equipment data, and official regulatory filings for policy information. We cross-reference secondary sources and note where information is uncertain or contested.
We don't aggregate or repackage other websites' research. If we link to something, we've read it. If we cite a number, we've checked the source.
How recommendations are made
When we say something is worth considering, that judgment is based on:
- Independent research into performance, reliability, and user experience
- Comparison against alternatives at similar price points
- Suitability for the specific use case we're addressing
- Absence of major unresolved safety or reliability issues
We don't rank products by who pays us the most. We don't have referral arrangements with specific manufacturers. If that ever changes, we'll say so explicitly.
Independence policy
Advertisers and sponsors do not influence our editorial content. We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage. Our recommendations are based solely on independent research.
If EV Charging Help is sponsored, the sponsorship is limited to placement (a banner, a mention in the newsletter). The sponsor does not review or approve editorial content before publication and does not influence which products we recommend or how we cover their industry segment.
If a sponsor operates in a category we're covering, we will include a disclosure in relevant articles:
EV Charging Help is sponsored by [Sponsor]. This article discusses [category] considerations generally; we don't recommend specific providers in editorial content.
No sponsorship relationship exists at launch. This policy is in place for when one does.
How and when content is updated
Every article shows a "Last updated" date. We review content proactively when:
- A major incentive program changes amounts, eligibility, or expiration
- A product is recalled, discontinued, or significantly revised
- A regulation is enacted, amended, or struck down
- A reader reports an error that checks out
We don't change article content without updating the "Last updated" date. If a correction is significant, we note it at the bottom of the article.
Corrections policy
If you spot an error, use the "Spot an error?" link on any article. We take corrections seriously, respond to every substantive report, and make corrections publicly visible via the article's revision date.
Affiliate links
We do not currently use affiliate links. If we ever do, we will disclose it clearly at the top of any article containing them. We will not change our recommendations to accommodate an affiliate relationship.
