Southern California Edison

Southern California Edison serves roughly 5 million customer accounts across central, coastal, and southern California. For EV drivers, SCE pairs a whole-house residential time-of-use rate optimized for electrification (TOU-D-PRIME) with a Charge Ready Home rebate that covers electrical panel upgrades for income-qualified and disadvantaged-community customers. Commercial and multifamily sites have access to the Charge Ready program suite (infrastructure, small site, and new construction rebates), and SCE runs a managed-charging pilot called Charge Smart SoCal in partnership with WeaveGrid.

Residential EVSE rebates

Charge Ready Home (income-qualified track)

Up to $4,200

SCE residential customers in single-family homes who qualify as a low-income household (under 80 percent of area median income, or enrolled in a qualifying public assistance program). Rebate covers 100 percent of electrical panel upgrade costs up to the cap. Requires installing a new 200-amp panel and a 240V circuit within 25 feet of an off-street parking spot, plus installing a Level 2 charger within 180 days of the panel upgrade.

Charge Ready Home (disadvantaged-community track)

Up to $2,100

SCE residential customers in single-family homes located in a qualifying disadvantaged community (top 25 percent on CalEnviroScreen 4.0 / SB 535). Rebate covers 50 percent of electrical panel upgrade costs up to the cap. Same panel and Level 2 charger installation requirements as the income-qualified track.

Commercial & multifamily rebates

Charge Ready Small Site Rebate

Up to $10,000 per port (max four ports per site)

Non-residential SCE customers at multifamily or commercial properties installing up to four Level 2 EV charging ports. Equipment must be on SCE's Approved Product List. Applications accepted through June 30, 2026 or until funds exhausted; agreements must be fully signed by December 31, 2026.

Charge Ready Charging Infrastructure Rebate

Utility-funded make-ready (utility-side and customer-side electrical infrastructure) plus a per-port EVSE rebate. Higher rebate amounts are available for sites in disadvantaged communities and at multi-unit dwellings. Contact SCE for current published per-port amounts before applying.

Multifamily and commercial property owners or managers within the SCE service territory installing four or more EV charging station ports. SCE funds utility-side and customer-side distribution infrastructure upgrades plus a rebate component. Participants must operate and maintain the equipment for 10 years and share networked usage data with SCE.

Charge Ready New Construction Rebate

Up to $3,500 per port

Multifamily property owners with title to properties in development or built 2017 or later. Funds customer-side make-ready electrical infrastructure plus Level 2 EV charging stations beyond CalGreen code requirements. No minimum or maximum port count; funding reserved per port for up to three years after agreement signing. Equipment must be on SCE's Approved Product List.

Managed-charging programs

Charge Smart SoCal

A managed-charging pilot launched by SCE in partnership with WeaveGrid that automatically shifts EV charging to off-peak hours through an app connected to most smart chargers and Teslas. The initial enrollment target is at least 3,000 EV drivers in the Gateway Cities region between Los Angeles and Orange County.

$50 enrollment bonus plus $50 per year of continued participation; opt out at any time with no penalty.

SCE offers a residential whole-house TOU rate (TOU-D-PRIME) designed for EV, storage, and heat-pump customers, with a 4pm to 9pm weekday peak window and off-peak pricing every other hour including all day on weekends and holidays. Customers attest to qualifying equipment at enrollment; those moving from an older TOU-D-A, TOU-D-B, or TOU-D-T plan do not need to re-attest. SCE also publishes a family of separately metered commercial EV rates (TOU-EV-7, 8, and 9) with phased-in demand charges over the first decade of service.

The Charge Ready Home rebate covers up to $4,200 of electrical panel upgrade costs for income-qualified households (and up to $2,100 for customers in disadvantaged communities), with the requirement that customers install a 240V circuit and a Level 2 charger within 180 days of the panel upgrade. On the commercial and multifamily side, Charge Ready Small Site pays up to $10,000 per port (max four ports per site) for sites running approved equipment; Charge Ready New Construction adds up to $3,500 per port for multifamily properties going beyond CalGreen code. The Charge Smart SoCal managed-charging pilot through WeaveGrid pays $50 at enrollment plus $50 per year of continued participation, currently focused on EV drivers in the Gateway Cities region.

SCE serves about 5 million customer accounts across central, coastal, and southern California, a footprint that includes both high-density urban areas and remote desert and mountain counties. Customers planning long overnight charging in fire-weather regions should account for Public Safety Power Shutoffs as a periodic interruption risk. The phased-in demand-charge structure on TOU-EV-7/8/9 also means commercial sites should model the cost crossover years carefully before committing to a 10-year operations agreement.
